Technocarb makes a wide variety of kits to convert a wide variety of fleet vehicles to propane and cng. While their propane and cng conversion kits could be used on a much wider variety of vehicles, the certification requirements of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) makes it prohibitively expensive for kit manufacturers like Technocarb to offer certified kits for select number of vehicles. At this time, Technocarb will be seeking EPA certification in the first quarter of 2006 with the first systems for the following types of vehicles:
Technocarb's kits are tailored primarily for dual-fuel operation on modern electronically fuel injected vehicles. The kits designed to be a plug-in installation for the most part with a minimal amount of rewiring and custom fabrication. In addition, Technocarb also supplies mono fuel systems.
Dual Fuel OperationAll of Technocarb's conversions are designed to start on gasoline and then automatically switch to vapour operation when the alternative fuel is selected. This is done to ensure that the gasoline fuel system is always functioning properly. In the case that the system runs out of LPG or CNG, the Techocarb control system automatically switches back to gasoline operation. When this happens, the alternative fuel tank gauge will flash its LED indicator lights and emit a "buzzing" sound to notify the operator that it is now back on gasoline operation. Other than having to keep an eye on the new fuel gauge, the operation of a converted vehicle is completely seamless to the vehicle's operator.
Off-Road ApplicationsTechnocarb makes a kit specially older carbureted V8-engine applications. It utilizes an exhaust oxygen sensor for full closed-loop operation to provide excellent fuel economy and low emissions on LPG and CNG. Technocarb's EPA/CARB-certified kits can be installed on vehicles others than those on which they were specified. While those vehicles will also provide excellent vapour fuel economy and low emissions, they can only be off-road applications. |
